Default Wheels and offset

I have been doing a lot of reading about what kind of wheels to put on a S4. Originally, I was set to get the ABT A24. However, 1552 Design told me with the offset at 35, I will need a 5mm spacer to clear the caliper. Thinking that will equal a 30 offset wheel, I ordered a set of Volk Racing TE37 18x7.5 with said offset. After weeks of anticipation, they finally arrived today.

Anxious about fitting them on, I took the factories off (and they weigh a ton!) and put the new wheel on with only 2 lugnuts. It didn't even make half a rotation before one of the spoke hitting the caliper. Although not by much, but that still doesn't work. I talked a friend who owned a local performance shop and he said I have two options. Either put on a 3mm spacer or take the leading(protruding) edge of the caliper off with a grinder.

What would you do?

I bought these wheels because I always like the look of them and they only weigh 17lbs. I weighed them myself.

Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Default With a 5mm spacer, the tires may stick out of the wheel well

I've got 18" Fikses (17/18lbs) with 225's. The rims have a 35mm offset and I'm using a 6.16mm spacer on the fronts and the front tires almost stick out beyond the wheelwell. With your 30mm offset and an additional 3mm spacer, I have a feeling the wheels may stick too far out.

Be very cautious with what size spacer you'll need. Without the spacers on my Fikses, it looks like a 3mm spacer is all it needs to clear the calipers. Use something thin between the wheel and hub to measure the clearance required.

I wouldn't shave down the spokes. If you happen to shave down the spokes so that there's a notch, that notch can quickly spread to a huge crack...very dangerous.
