When the Aux. Water Pump goes bad, what exactly fails on it?

When the Aux. Water Pump goes bad, what exactly fails on it?
Is it just a seal that starts leaking? Is it usualy a cracked housing? Is it something thats repairable? Do tell of your experiences folks, I'd love to read them.

After trying to squeeze the camera in there for a good pic....

...this is the best I could come up with. Its a bit blurry, but you can tell its not leaking from any hose. Seems to be coming from the middle of the pump. Would this seal be replaceable by any chance?

I think you can take it apart and use liquid gasket stuff...
but, I highly suggest just ponying up and buying the new pump.
