Where are the chip producers coming up with HP numbers?
Just wondering if any one knows where the HP #'s are coming from, from the various chip manufacturers(MTM,APR,Autothority,&TAP). Do they actually take them to a 4 wheel dyno or remove the engine and place it on an engine dyno or are they just using a G-Tech or Vericom type acceleration dynometer or have they taken it to the strip and come up with a time to weight HP conversion. It would be nice to see some concrete Dyno tested #'s not just some speculation on how much this and that chip makes. I don't want to start a war here but I could tell you my yugo chip makes 100hp, would you believe me without wheel horsepower dyno sheets in hand. I just want to see where they are coming up with these #'s. If anyone knows please respond. I know many of you have responded to i.e.(does a chip make my S4 faster) with a resounding yes, but to someone who hasn't experienced it first hand it is impossible
to tell if it's- DAMN I just spent $1000 bucks Yeah It kinda felt faster or Holy Sh*t this thing is supersonic. Please give me some input.

MTM and APR both dyno their cars
I don't know how MTM does it, but APR drops in a welded torsen diff from a Audi 90 and disconnects the center driveshaft so that the car is essentially a FWD car. I think they disable a few electronics too, like ABS/EDL, but I'm going off memory at this point. Brett posted this a while back, look in the archives. Apparently it takes about 45 minutes to convert an A4, but longer for an S4 due to bits and pieces being in the way.

MTM actually has 4 dynos. (2) Engine dyno's and (2) 4 wheel chassis dyno's. For most of the bolt-on applications, the chassis dyno's are used. For applications such as a 2.0L stroker kit on a 1.8T, where the engine is out the car allready, then the engine dyno's are used.

Does APR dyno the S4? Brett/APR?
I talked with them a while ago and I thought they told me that they have not dynoed the S4 yet but have used the vericom computer thing (a much better gtech) I could be wrong and would love to know.
