actually, 6 isn't illegal... look at all the factory-tinted SUVs out there
but they could only tint the rear windows that dark. States can't override DOT-approved glass, which is why, for example, in Massachusetts, aftermarket tint < 50% is illegal, but factory tint can be much darker if it's DOT-approved. Stupid, yes, I know.

Yeah that's why I said basically. I assumed he was talking about the whole car.
My old grand cherokee had really dark glass in the rear, probably equal to 30% or 35% tint.
I didn't know that about the DOT vs. state. I've never seen any really dark front windows that are DOT approved though have you?

right; I think dark FRONT windows can't be DOT approved; rear can
but I think federal law basically says that DOT-approved glass can't be banned by a state, but the states do what they can to hassle you, so you can't tint existing glass to the same darkness. It's stupid, of course.
