XPOST: S03's From TireRack?
I purchased a set of S03's from TireRack and they are making some horrible noise...almost unbearable. The Tramlining is horrible and I just don't think a $200 tire should behave like this. Will TireRack take them back? If so who do I call?
They only have about 5k miles on them....I took them to a Bridgestone/Firestone dealer today and they said the inner edges were feathering a bit, they ran their hand across the edge of the tire. I'm hesitant to believe that because I thought that's sort of their design...for improved traction.
Anyways the car has had an alignment and all maintenance so there should be no reason they are wearing abnormally. I have the records and the previous owner took meticulous care of the car.
Any thoughts?

I wouldn't say *only* 5,000 miles. That's actually about 1/3 of their life expectancy.
With that many miles I seriously doubt anyone would take them back. They don't sound defective, they are known to tramline and produce noise. BTW, do you have an aftermarket suspension? That could be causing the uneven wear.

More like 1/2 of their life expectancy in my case to my disappointment...
...but then again, I wouldn't take another set of S-03's if they were free.

I'd have to say that noise must be due to uneven wear.
I have 13k miles on mine and still have 3/32" before the treadbars. They are not loud at all. Sorry to hear yours did not perform as well.

If you didn't like the S-03, don't try the Michelin PS2 ...
1. The ride is much stiffer.
2. The weights of the S-03 and PS2 are identical.
3. At least on the textured concrete on my local highways, the PS2 has more tread noise; but it lacks the impact noise of the S-03 when driving over cracks and tarstrips.
I never had any tramlining with the S-03's (and don't with the PS2), and the S-03's lasted about 20k miles including 13 track days.

No the car is completely stock.....
And the rear tires till have the nipple things on them...the fronts are worn a bit more. They have plenty of life left in them I'll have to measure the tread tomorrow and see. I wouldn't say that 5k is 1/3 of their life...I figured I would get 20k out of them...I would say they are about 1/4 worn.
So are the P-Zero's known to be less noisy? How many miles do you have on them?

Re: No the car is completely stock.....
its tough to tell how much life is left on S03's by just looking at them, when they are new, the tread is so damn deep....so even when they are almost gone, they still look like they have a lot of tread left....
best way is to measure them to get a % of tread dept left....you can double check, but i'm almost positive that the depth on new S03's is 10/32"
good luck with the tires and i also replied over at ncaudi...
