cant get my hood to latch closed

I know this is really tough to help bu tI am fishin for ideas as to why...
I installed a new timing belt water pump and tensioner pulley after doing so I put everything back together and when i was finished my hood doesnt close completely. I meesed around with the hood latch on the body moving it up and down and so on. I adjusted everyting i could. It doesnt make sense when I close the hood and push it all the way down the hood doesnt line up with the fenders it would sit really low if it were to latch. the latch itself does work but i just cant get it to close... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Two things occur...

1) Try pulling the hood release inside the car, may reset the mechanism.

2) Is the black tab in the radiator grill (the one you pull to release the hood) stuck pulled out? Try pushing it in.
