How hard is it to remove the ECU?

I have a very early 2002 A4. It was the first to be delivered to the dealer, so the build date is definetly pre-October 2001. I've heard this means that I don't have the dreaded "chastity belt" covering the ECU, so I won't have to saw or drill. Is this true?

Just wondering how difficult, then, will it be to remove the ECU? I've decided to go with Neuspeed which will require me to remove and replace the chip myself, and I have ZERO car experience. Can a monkey do this?

Ya it pretty easy. The hardest part is prying up the plastic trim thats just below the windshield,

(it pulls straight up). I've done it a couple of times . . . the last time it took me about 10 minutes. BTW, the "chasity belt" isn't a cover. Its actually five shear bolts that attach the ECU.

Very Easy.. I have build date 09/01=NO Chastity belt (see link for inst.)

Agreed, this is easy...

Just follow these instructions from APR. As has already been said, the hardest part was lifting up the trim at the bottom of the window.
