not necessarily.
if you are set on running 3 subs, you could get 3 6ohm dual voice coil sub and wire it up to run at 1 ohm or 4 ohms...
you can run other impedances as well but you would have to be more careful with headroom because of the less perfect impedances...but it wouldnt be a problem if you have the amps set up correctly.

Because I like to tinker- I cut the tabs off and hooked up the positive on one side and the negative on the other. Sounds nearly the same, quite possibly a little tiny bit better. Still not what I wanted. I’m going to reinstall stock tomorrow and head to a shop sometime in the near future.
