Any EE/Computer/IT field engineer here?
I was born in Australia and always thought about going there. IĄ¯m currently located in the US and just finished college with Bachelor Science of Electrical Engineering. I heard news about lack of people in technical jobs field. Are there many openings for entry level?
I checked some sites (yahoo, www.jobsearch.gov.au, etc) but most of them donĄ¯t say requirements (I guess itĄ¯s different from US) I donĄ¯t know if they hire people from overseas or I have to be there to look for job. Any help is appreciated.
In order to get anything decent you will need to have experience (and good experience at that) commensurate with the are you are trying to get into.
Competition is tuff for the high paying (100K+) I.T jobs - but there is a plethora of mediocre positions always floating around, which will pay mediocre wages to boot.
Ever since the Dot com went Dont 'Bang' its been getting harder to earn serious money in I.T in Australia. The few friends I have who earn really good money in the I.T industry have done so as they got into the right position before the correction and then were able to ride out the storm.
Good luck!
If you're prepared to take reasonably poor pay (as BlackA4TQ says - things have changed since the .com bust) for a year or two AND your smart, ambitious AND you learn to market yourself (this is really important) then you'll do fine.
I speak from experience - I started as a support analyst 7.5 years ago, now I'm IT director for the Asia Pacific region.
