RS6 Oil Leak

RS6 Oil Leak
I have developed a small but annoying oil leak that has covered the drive in spots and smells afetr a reasonable run.
I have had t into and Audi garage and at first they said the rucked box gasket needed sorting.
It went in to get sorted only for my wife to receieve a call saying that in order to sort the leak the whole engine had to be removed in order to sort a small perforation on the rucker box cover.
I was just wondering if anyone else has suffered this problem and if the facts are true in that the whole engine has to come out in order to sortb this annoying leak?
Any advice greatly received.

Any update on this OLD thread? Curious as I have been trying to determine what needs to happen in order to replace the oil pan seal. Curious if it is a must remove engine job, or if the seal can be replaced without the hassle of major disassembly.

The dealer should have first known that there is a technical service bulletin (#2013002/4) for the sump pan gasket which states that as the gaskets settles over time, the torque on the bolts decreases.
Clean the whole area and re-torque the pan bolts and test drive.

Thanks for the reply... I opted out of the RS6 (not so reluctantly) and went with an S8. I loved the power of the RS6, but decided to go the less expensive route. May get an RS6 later on... Wicked cool cars.

Oil Pan seal is a bead of Silicone, not a gasket. You can get away with tightening the bolts once, but don't want to push your luck. It's easy to do and can be done on a set of ramps.
The Valve cover gaskets can be changed without pulling the engine, my mechanic did it for me without any trouble and had the valve covers off this past week to check on the cam guides.
Other "pull the engine" jobs can be done by a good mechanic without pulling the engine.
I had my torque converter changed at 102,000 miles and they did not need to pull the engine.
