Default 95 Cab imploding

After over half a year with no significant issues (I replaced much of the front end suspension initially, and had a radiator resovoir replacement), my car is dying.

Here's what I am looking at:

1) Gas leak causing lots of smell but no visible drips, probably located at the top of the fuel pump, but I haven't torn it apart yet and am looking for more docs on this (if you read this Crazy Russian please link me).

2) New noise coming from front of the engine, I can't see that its anything but the timing belt. Gets better when it warms up, but the lifter noise stays. Any how-tos written on replacing the belt?

3) Drivers door won't open. Wife locked the car from the passenger side door today, and although the central locking sounds like it is locking/unlocking both doors and the door **** goes up and down, can't open the driver's door from inside or out... this ever happen to anyone else?

These are just the major problems right now.

Any help is appreciated.

Sllack - it's past time for you to pony up a $100 and get a Bentleys manual. If you just refuse, I'll send some pages for the fuel issue, since I'm going to get on that when my son brings the Cabby home from college later this month. The front engine noise could be anything, and I don't think the timing belt does anything before it fails, unless it shreads. Others may know better. You could have something as simple as the accessory belt tensioner squeaking. 12v.org has a great page on replacing the timing belt. I think the lifters are just a bit noisy anyway, and if you are thinking about doing something about it, Bentleys has a procedure to check lifter clearance for excessive wear. I'd throw some seafoam or marvel mystery oil in first, before I got too excited about tearing things apart, and I'd do an oil change. That door, though, I don't know. At least you can blame that on the wife!

I do need a manual. I take it the Bentleys is the best? Is there no original Audi FSM available?

I was hoping someone would have a trick on the door...

1: good chance the braided hose going to the fuel rail, the rubber underneath at the unions is leaking [this is dangerous for fire].
How strong is the smell? Leaking gas in the engine with your blower on is forcing the fumes in.

2. It could be the pulley on the serpentine belt tensioner, have you ever replaced it? It is a $60 part and it does wear out.
If the TB has never been replaced it could easily be the tensioner or roller, probably both as they wear the same.

3. Chances are one of the vacuum lines under the back seat ruptured or the plastic T fittings broke thus with a vacuum leak the central locking system will not work correctly.

BTDT on all 3 above.

The Bentley is the ONLY factory manual for Audi 90. Chilton or Haynes never made a repair manual that I have ever seen.

Sadly you cannot purchase a paper version, it is installed on your PC and you can print off what pages you need.

I can't recall if they changed their policy but when I bought mine years ago you were only allowed to install it once like MS OEM software. If the computer died you would have to purchase another copy.

This disgusted many myself included as I refuse to purchase something twice.

I now have to fire up my old computer for Bentley as I cannot transfer it to my new one.

I just had to rant, this has been a major complaint in this forum now for ages.

Updates:

1) Fixed the gas leak problem... there is another thread on it with more details. Short story is I silicone sealed the sending unit. I also replaced the fuel filter, causing a hose to need to be replaced with it, which I had to custom form and fit... thats another story, but wasn't the root cause of the gas smell.

2) Drivers door - my car is somewhat unique, in that a previous owner installed a custom remote engine and lock setup. They jacked with the wiring somehow. The lock function unlocks and vice-versa... makes for strangeness with the central locking. Long story short, the fix for this was to turn the key on the driver side and hold it until the windows completely closed, that unlocked the driver door... yeah weird.

As far as the new noise when cold, yeah I change my oil alot - I use Lucas brand 10-40. It might be the belt, but may be a pulley or water pump... not sure. I'll keep an eye on it... with old cars you can't expect perfection!

you can cancel your license on a particular computer then reuse it on another. I've done this. On the menu bar in Bentley choose "license manager" and "deactivate content"

I think you get two computers with their license.

Well, there is a trick to that. Apparently they did a slight update with the program after I bought mine thus for me to cancel and/or transfer I have to upgrade my copy thus meaning buy another.
I even talked to a rep about this long ago and the conclusion was my copy is outdated and cannot be transferred.
My copy is fine and I can't recall the exact details but it is stuck where it is and I have just lived with with it.
I printed off a good portion of the most common and valuable information in case of tragedy. I'll revisit this if I ever have to.
