I have a 2007 Audi A6 C6 4F Allroad with the 4.8l engine. The car has the Bi-Xenon headlights, and the shutter has stopped working on the left headlight. This is a Right Hand drive car.
Does anyone know where I can get the shutter fixed or where I can purchase a replacement headlight?
I have done this operation twice; several years ago on the right side and just a couple months ago on the left. On the right side I cut a hole through the bottom of the housing based on photos available somewhere on this website, in order to gain access to the wiring. On the left side I was able to get to the break point of the wiring through the access panel in the rear of the housing, though it wasn't easy. Any repair will involve the removal of the housings from the car which also means removal of the bumper cover. Beyond that point the most likely cause of failure will be an open circuit caused by the poor quality wire that Audi spec'd Hella to use on these headlamps. Depending on where the wire "broke" it could be an easy fix or a pain in the ***.
Just some info related to these headlights before i close tabs and the info is lost forever. I had cracked insulation shorting wires and the highbeam shutter would'nt work. Using an inspection mirror, a torch and some "liquid tape" on a long small paintbrush i went and coated all areas of cracked insulation i could see. I paid special attention around the connector plug, popping it out slightly and separating and coating all wires coming into the headlight. Also cut all the small cable ties and separated wires for coating too. Tested and it now all working again. saved me $$$$ on trying to get a replacement one. Wiring diagram below for reference. Wires 11 and 7 for shutter.
Option 2: do the job your self.
Shutter is most likely fine, it’s a wiring problem.
