UK: p0087 Ideas
Just recently made an account in hopes someone can shed some light on my 2012 Q5 2.0TDI's recent problem. Hopefully this is the right place to post it.
As the title suggests, I am getting a p0087 error code (flashing glow plug light and limp mode) - but only when heavily accelerating up a hill - the car runs perfectly until this is performed and then limp mode is activated.
I am fairly new to VCDS, however, found the following conclusions:
- At Idle the high pressure rail is between 25,000 - 33,000kPA
- Error arising due to - fuel pressure specified at 1.8e+006 hPA, actually 1.5066e+006hPa
- Cannot find a way to check low end fuel pump/pressure
I have replaced the fuel filter and glow plugs before running diagnostics in hopes it was something simple - fuel prime test ran.
Whirring noise from HPFP but mixed opinions on whether its supposed to be making that noise.
Any help is appreciated. Garage suggested HPFP has failed and entire system needs to be flushed and replaced to avoid shards of metal/contamination. However, due to the cost, felt it was best to double check the issue.
Cheers,
Nic
Turned out to be the first of its kind the specialists had ever seen - something stuck inside the common rail without anything else failing, still no idea how something got in there. Was only found after every fuel supplying part was transitioned from a working car.
All sensors were fine, high pressure and low pressure fuel pump were tested and found to be fine, injectors were on their way out and got replaced but wasn't connected to original problem.
If you have the same problem, do all the tests, confirm it isn't the more obvious parts, then if there is nothing obvious it may be worth grabbing a new common rail. (I believe the regulator will need to be replaced as well as it uses a stretch bolt assembly and therefore cannot be reused - may be wrong).
All the best,
Nic
