Default 2005 Audi TT Quattro 3.2 VR6

Hello there,

I have recently started searching for an Audi TT Quattro. I found one that seems to be in good condition based on the photos. I have yet to check it out in person, but the only thing that worries me a bit is the fact that it has 147,000 miles. Do you think I try to find one with lower mileage? It's at a dealership and they're asking $10k, and that seems like a lot to me for a car with 147,000 miles.

Also, I know it's good to get the timing belt replaced at around 60,000 miles with these cars, but this one has a timing chain. Does the timing chain last quite a bit longer than the timing belt?

I appreciate any responses.

The 5 years or 60K mile recommendation is solely for the timing belt and all its associated parts for the 1.8 engine. Theoretically, the 3.2 chain should last far longer but there have been a few reports of the chain stretching after high mileage and needing replaced. Unfortunately, I've seen no rule of thumb like the one for the 1.8L. IMO ANY car with 150K is a crap shoot. At that mileage, an inspection by your mechanic prior to purchase is required. Most folks freshen the TT suspension components around 100K.

What do mean "freshen"?
Fully replace all suspension components, or something less?

When I bought my second Mk 1 after putting 90K on the first one, the difference in suspension performance was very noticeable. Don't get me wring, the old car handled fine, just not as good as new. Also replace the front sway bar bushings if you hear squeaks from the front when going over speed bumps.
