After Inhaling Some Fumes, Suddenly I Have Red Brake Calipers! (high bandwidth warning!)
<i>"Hey, are those StopTechs?"
"Uh . . . why yes, of course they are."</i>

Oh well.
1.
Here's the caliper paint (Pep Boys, $5.99/can, good to 900 deg. F.):

2.
Time for cleaning (I used P21s wheel cleaner, rinsed with H2O, then citrus degreaser followed by another rinse). Brake cleaner would work well, too. My brakes weren't too dirty, as you can see below. The toothbrush worked well (and it was so clean afterwards that I'm still able to use it for my teeth!):

3.
Removing the retainer clip (this was a real PIA to replace after painting--keep a sponge handy, spray some paint in a paper cup away from your face, and prepare to make minor touch-ups):

4.
Then I wiped all the painted surfaces with tar, gum, and wax remover, followed by a rinse:

5.
After drying with a terry towel and sitting overnight, I masked them puppies off--easily the most time consuming part of the whole process (removing them would seem to be easier!):

Another (notice how nicked-up the calipers were):

6.
Spray away (about 5 light coats in all, with about 10-15 minutes between coats--this stuff dries FAST). After this, I waited about 20 minutes and SLOWLY peeled my masking/newspaper off:

7.
Finished product--got rotor rust? My digital camera/flash rendered the red caliper color more orange than they appear in person. Also, the reddish residue by the piston and on the top of the caliper was paint "dust" that wiped away easily:

Here they are under my Kahn RSSs:

John, do you have any more pics of those wheels on your car?
I was looking into the RSR's, but they won't fit over my StopTechs I've been told that the RSS's will though, so I might go with them. The only thing I don't care for is the indentation down the middle of all the spokes, the RSR's don't have that. Otherwise, I really them.
