Finally got around to this today. Despite all the discussion a few weeks ago and insistance that the values were 4.7K ohms for the resistor, this does not appear to be correct (on my car). The ones I had bought at RatShack and did not work were apparently mislabled.... Doh! That will teach me not to check. (They were 4700 ohms instead of the labeled 4.7) Correct value is 4.7 OHMS (color code Yellow/Violet/Gold) as I originally posted. Tried the 4.7K and no go. 4.7 1/2 watt works fine. Cleared codes, restarted and light gone. I hope this puts the issue to bed...Axeyrcat was right all along.
