Maybe you can do a piece that slides over & adheres to the plastic paddles for ease of install.

Oh yeah... that's not a TT! Didn't even look past the wheel.

Default Here's a pic and a better description of what's up, Raffi...

<img src="http://images3.fotki.com/v26/photos/3/36284/246329/3_2001-vi.jpg" border="0">

The 3.2 TT can also shift via optional paddle shifters shown here with the + and - sign. These paddles are made of black plastic.

In Europe, the VW R32 also (optionally) uses the DSG transmission with paddle shifters. However, instead of the paddles being made from plastic, they are made of aluminum.

Why Audi didn't put aluminum shifters on the 3.2 I don't know, however they probably would look and feel better in aluminum.

What I've been trying to determine is whether or not I can order the VW R32 paddle shifters in aluminum and put them on the 3.2 TT. There are several issues involved:

1. Do they fit?
2. If so, what is the cost of labor to do this?
3. Can the swap be done without tearing up the steering wheel?

I haven't answered any of these questions yet, though I have a set of Euro R32 paddles en route.

What you might be able to fashion is a set of aluminum paddles which actually slip over the black plastic paddles. They could be held in place via adhesive or whatever you think would work the best.

This would bring the installation cost down to zero, and hopefully provide a nicer look at a reasonable price.

Hopefully, I've made the situation clearer. I will gladly accept a set at a reduced price or help you further if you decide to explore this.

Default I see it now, but here's what I see-->>

I think it could be difficult to have something made with alum. that would just go over it, since all our stuff is made on lathe.

Unless the whole thing gets replaced, and that could be expensive.

What i see as another option, which is easier for me to make, have a sleeve made that will just go over the plastic, but only in pewter form that can be polished and chromed or just brush finish.

Here are some items that we make in pewter form, I'm not sure how it would look, but I might be willing to make a set if I have those plastics in hand here.<ul><li><a href="http://www.paintballpins.com/Pages/001-home.html">Pewter stuff</a></li></ul>

Hard to say how pewter would look. It would need to be a close match to the aluminum accents.

Default Thats not how mine came off... there are spring/clip retainers

that hold the airbag in.... on the VW 3 spoke sport wheel... which is literally identical to the TT wheel... you inserted a scredriver from behind and pried the clips free... then the airbag pops out.

I'll check on my car though to see...
