In talking to my dealer here in Calgary today, I got an update on the press vehicle which I test drove and wrote about awhile ago. The car is a silver 180 FWD, a US vehicle actually, and apparently went through their shop for transmission repair or replacement due to a 2nd gear-related failure.

I didn't have time to explore the matter in detail with my rep, but it sounds like another tranny kill can be added to the table. At the time I had did my test drive, about an hour through both bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic and some long straight-aways at speed, I did not notice anything abnormal about the 1st-to-2nd shift.
