Anybody with cluster failures in the US, please contact me . . .
I am doing some research in contemplation of a class action suit regarding TT instrument cluster failures. The cluster on my 2001 225q has died and the car is totally non-op. I believe there are a number of people who are, or have been in a similar situation.
I would like to get information on a few things:
1. Kind of an ad hoc poll of the number of folks who have experienced any kind of cluster failure. This includes those of you who were told by the dealer that the gas gauge failure was because of a bad sending unit. It also includes anyone whose tach has decided that 0 RPM was the order of the minute, and then decided it wasn't any more and went back to normal, bizarre icons showing up in the middle of the display (e.g., a thermometer to indicate a cooling system error upon start-up on a 40 degree morning, etc.), etc. Please include:
a. When did you buy the car? -
b. Was it new/used? -
c. How many cluster failures have you experienced on the/each car? -
d. How many miles when the/each failure occurred? -
e. Type of failure(s)? -
f. Has the latest issue been resolved? -
g. How was the/each failure resolved? -
2. How many have had a failed cluster replaced outside of warranty?
a. How far outside of warranty? -
b. Reason given by dealer/Audi for conducting the replacement? (e.g., customer satisfaction, earlier replacement failed within its own warranty period, etc.)? -

I think at least half the people here have had cluster failures. Doubt you will get anywhere with
this post, but here are my particulars:
a. When did you buy the car? - 2003
b. Was it new/used? - Used
c. How many cluster failures have you experienced on the/each car? - 1
d. How many miles when the/each failure occurred? - 25000
e. Type of failure(s)? - Tach and Speedo would stay at zero, then work. Only when cold, intermittent. Finally dead pixels in the middle screen that remained got the dealer to replace.
f. Has the latest issue been resolved? - Yes
g. How was the/each failure resolved? - New cluster
2. How many have had a failed cluster replaced outside of warranty?
a. How far outside of warranty? - n/a
b. Reason given by dealer/Audi for conducting the replacement? (e.g., customer satisfaction, earlier replacement failed within its own warranty period, etc.)? - n/a

You might as well do a search and pay some poor kid to compile the info...
in other words, doubt you'll generate much interest in such an effort. A lot of us have one or two failures and we've seen such efforts by the latest 'newb' of the day go nowhere.
Good luck anyway.
Yea - bad attitude, I know.
