just wondering why that might be. oil level is ok. no leaks. but he said the check engine oil light went on last night on his drive home from being out to dinner.
would the change to syn thetic have anything to do with it? i doubt that but..... maybe the weight? i doubt that too. i use 0-40 in my car....cant see that being the problem.
thanks guys!

if the car has mileage on dino (regular oil).....>>>
the synthetic could have, dislodged some gunk that was built up somewhere and it is sitting on or near the sender....
In older cars, like 20 yrs old....they specifically tell you to be careful converting to synthetic for that reason. This is due to the poor filtering conditions in older cars.....
more than likely, nothing to worry about....you may want to put a synthetic cleaner in the oil, and drive for a bit...then change it again...might clear it out.
Also, you may want to check VAG...for error's....

yeah, i am gonna go over there today and VAG it. and i figured as much that dino oil might be the
culprit. i have told him tons of times to switch to synthetic. finally he listens.
i figured it was the switch, but i wanted to make sure efore i went out there. thanks guys!

Um, WHICH oil light, level or pressure?
You either have
1) Low oil level-- re check on level ground. How much did you add?
2) Low oil pressure-- perhaps something is clogging the oil pump pickup-- search for 1.8T sludge issue
3) A bad sender
Either way, if we're dealing with the oil PRESSURE light, you have a potentially serious issue and I wouldn't run the engine until it is resolved. If it's the oil LEVEL light, and you are certain the oil level is OK, then it's less of a problem.
