Default Changed Transmission Fluid - Observation

I just changed my trans fluid in my 01 6spd quattro and I just wanted to share something I noticed. When draining the Bevel Box (a must that is skipped over in many a How To's)the drain plug is the magnetic kind. As expected for a car with 100k miles the plug was full of very fine particles of metal that look like sludge.

The thing is, it was full, so no additional particles could be captured. I cleaned it out using brake cleaner and some cotton swabs. Audi claims life time fluid and honestly the fluid that came out didn't look bad and I can't say there is a huge improvement with the Red Line I replaced the fluid with. But now as more of the fine metal partials are created at least they have a place to be captured instead of just floating around in the trans case.

If you haven't changed your fluid and you are at the 100K mark, I recommend you do it just for the sake of cleaning out the Magnetic plug in the Bevel Box.

PS if you have an 01 you need a 14mm Allen for the tyranny fill and drain plugs and a 10mm Allen for the bevel. The directions I found online had a 17mm and a star bit which I guess is for the 2002 and newer.
