Default Chapter the Third, in which our hero takes a "loaner" from the dealership (long rant)

The Audi dealer pointed out that I need a diverter valve and we agreed
for me to bring it in at 8:00 today. When I get there, they initially have no record of
the appointment and only later discover that they put it down for September instead
of July. But, they will work my car in anyway. No, I couldn't be allowed to wait for it.

Instead they send me over to the loaner office. Loaners are evidently contracted
out to Enterprise. So, I take in my gorgeous, lithe, nimble, fleet, lissome, sporty, curvaceous Audi TT and what do they give me?! A Land Rover Discovery! The anti-TT.

This may be the Yuppie car of choice, but driving this monster was an ordeal
never to be repeated. Like most SUVs, it's just big, ugly and stupid. Yes,
vision out of the front is good, but rear vision is awful: I can hardly see a
sedan that's tailing me too close. It was a free loaner, but I had to go through
paperwork and pay for the gas I used--and this thing is a gas guzzler par
excellence!

Contact with the road? It felt like I had lidocaine in both buttocks!
How does the ride feel? You're like a ball on a tether, constantly being propelled
forward only to be yanked back by 3 tons of metal.

They tried to call me to say that they weren't able to work my car in today
after all, but I was already on my way to the dealership anxious to get rid of the monster. They really wanted me to leave the TT and drive the Land Rover back home (30 miles), but I refused to drive it another mile. Of course the service
guy apologized profusely. I'll take my TT back on a
morning when I can wait and not get stuck with a loaner again.

Yes, I should be grateful for the "free" loan. But, really, it was an opportunity
cost. I missed the opportunity to drive something really interesting and exciting.
Any Audi or VW product would have been preferable. This is a good example of insensitivity to the customer base. I blame the dealership, not Audi.

Is it so unreasonable to expect something interesting as a loaner?

Default Sorry about the loaner but am more interested that Audi is suggesting DV change outs. Did you point

out problem or did they?

Default Hey, at least you didn't get a Dodge "pick-em-up truck" like MichaelTT. The second time he was ...

"upgraded" to a Ford Focus. (BTW, do a search of past posts and you'll find a list of what folks have gotten as loaners. You didn't do too badly...) This is the one thing I'll really miss selling the Mercedes and keeping the Audi, the level of service overall. Saying that Mercedes has Audi beat is a gross understatement.

Default Denny - not sure if you saw the post, but I actually got a call from AoA telling me my part was...

at the dealer and I should schedule an appointment. They were responding to a call I made to them about a month ago complaining about the DV valve. Unfortunately, they're still talking about the G valve and admit that they are still working on a permanent fix, but "it takes time to re-engineer."

You're complaning! I'm currently stuck in a Mitsubishi Mirage (i.e. the cheapest car Enterprise has to offer).

Which dealer do you go to? I'm getting my car looked at (alas not for the DV issue, but for the "electrical gremlins" mostly) by the Beverly Hills Audi service place.<p>-ilya

Default My dealership pulled all Audi loaners ('cept A8 customers, Audi policy)...

and I'll tell you what, whenever they offer me the option of a ride or an Enterprise loaner, I take the loaner, because it costs them $$$. Eventually I hope it will be more cost effective to keep Audi loaners if I rack up Enterprise bills!

I don't totally agree with you John. At least you got a highline car as a loaner. But hey, you despise SUV's, so that's your thing. Better luck next time.
