Default Check Engine Light

2 weeks ago I changed the spark plugs on my 2000 CQ, set the GAP at .032 and did not have any problems.
Today on my way to work the check engine light came on. As many had suggested I did check the gas cap and it was on tight. I then called the local Audi dealer and they did not seem too concerned. They set a service appointment for next Wed.
Could the new plugs have caused this or would I have known sooner?
And are there any real dangers waiting that long for service.
Or does this light come on at service intervals? It has never come on before and my car has 57,900 miles on it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Default i wish i could tell you...but

considering that my check engine light is permanently on, i've decided that it was a high priced option that was installed into my TT. no fault codes, nothing...but my CEL is on. so stupid.

the only way the CEL is actually "dangerous" is if it's flashing.

Default with your car, that close to warranty end, have the dealer go over it w/ a fine tooth comb.

and "fix" what ever the problem is... that way you have the 2year - 12k mile guarantee. That is my opinion.
