Engine keeps running after pulling key out.
I just got my 2000 QC 180 three weeks ago and love it. I recently replaced the factory cassette deck with an Alpine iva-d900 dvd player. I like the new system, but now I've noticed that when I have my lights on and turn the key and pull it out... the engine doesn't shut off... not a good thing. The engine does turn off if I turn the key back to the on position and then off again. The engine will also turn off if I turn off the Alpine stereo or if I turn off the lights. This makes the recent install a prime suspect, but I can't be 100% positive that the problem wasn't there before I installed the aftermarket stereo. So has anyone ever heard of a problem like this? I plan on taking it back to the car audio store that installed it, but they're not necessarily the brightest bunch and I'm not sure how helpful they'll be in tracking down the problem. thanks for any info. -Brandon

Bad Install : 12V power is backfeeding into the Ignition. Kick that installer!
Similar to what is done to wire up a turbo timer.
They're lucky that they didn't blow your airbags along with it.

What the heck did they wire into for that to happen?
they would hafta wire into the bundle that goes to the ignition switch for this to happen, or to muck up some serious wiring under the lower dash part.
Take it back right away, this is not the TT's fault at all.

Yeah, no turbo timer.
The deck has a control unit that has 12v in, remote in (so that the radio turns off with the car), as well as inputs from the parking brake wire, and car brake wire in order for the dvd player to limit movie playing to when the car is parked. Either the control unit or another amp or something probably isn't being grounded properly. I just went out to the parking lot at work to try and reproduce the problem and the car turned off fine... This gremlin seems to come and go.
Interestingly, I did find another post by someone on this forum with a similar problem of his TT engine still running after pulling out the key... not caused by a turbo timer.

The wiring on our cars are very complex, maybe too complex for
some car stereo installers. Hopefully they used diodes to isolate the current flow of the power sources. If they haven't I would recommend calling them to have them install them asap. There is one wire that is called "key sense" that they may have tied into the ignition wire when installing the radio. Definitely have them look at it, it is definitely their fault on this.
