Default ESP/ABS problems

My 2001 TT roadster (2wd)has developed two perplexing problems. They began after a wheel alignment.

1. 3 times in two weeks, at speed on the interstate, the steering will suddenly pull to left (not a huge amount) accompanied by the "gronk" sound that ABS can sometimes make when braking hard! Scare the bejezzus out of you.

2. At some point on nearly every trip the car makes, the ESP/ABS light will come on when braking. No physical symptom in this case.

I don't have an Audi dealer close, and the VW dealer who services the car normally is baffled and says it's time for me to take it to an Audi dealership. That's a full day's event for me.
Any suggestions, either for fixing, or that I can pass along to service writer/tech at Audi dealership? I've learned I need to speak in their language if at all possible.
Thanks

Sherry

Default

ESP requires resetting after an alignment not all shops are equipped to do this.

Default Can you check the fault codes? Maybe a sensor is going bad.

When that happens, the system just completely shuts off, which is what is happening in your #2. Happened to me.

Default you probably have a lateral or longitudinal sensor going out...

which may or may not throw a code. I'd replace both to be on the safe side, but they're $130 each.

Default ESP has a sensor to know where the front....

wheels are compared to the steering wheel position. If the alignment is changed and the sensor is not reset the ESP program will think the car is in an abnormal driving condition and try to correct.

Default VW's do not have such an ESP sensor...

I think you may have hit the nail on the head.

A call to the VW dealership which performed the alignment says that VW's don't have this sensor, and therefore resetting one is not something they do.
If you're correct about all this, then a new alignment or sensor resetting at an Audi dealership should solve the problem.
I'm going to call the Audi dealer service dept. and see if I can get confirmation on the problem and solution before dedicating a day in their waiting room.
Thanks

Sherry

Default I don't believe that. The steering position sensor is what is used by the ESP system to determine

your intended direction. If it has ESP, it needs to know where you want to go, and it needs a steering wheel position sensor...
