Default Fault in Engine Management System

I ran the battery down on my 2001 TT coupe and had to jump start the car. When it came on the Fault in Engine Management System light was on and the car was running rough. I had the codes reset at the dealer but they are saying I have issues with the timing, the turbo and the catalytic converter. While this seems fairly obvious considering how the car is running, I am having a hard time believing that running the battery down will kill the car. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so what was the resolution? Thanks

I had the same experience on an A4 and nothing like this happened. If it ran fine before you jumped it, there should be no issue. Anything odd happen when you jumped it?

Nothing. It started right up but was idling a little rough. As soon as I started driving the light came on and the power dropped. And I agree that nothing should be wrong but unfortunately it is.

You have the 1.8 or the 3.2?

Not familiar with the 3.2, but it is possible that the belt jumped. Age of the belt? Also, I would not touch the turbo or cat at this point. There is nothing I can conceive of that could have gone wrong in one start on those components.

I just bought the car so I am not sure of the age of the belt. I suppose it's possible it jumped but I really have no idea how jump starting the car could cause that...... So, I am not sure which is worse but my guess is either the timing belt or the ECU (emc?). Anyway I agree there should be no issue with the turbo or cat. I would imagine that any problems with the ignition system would prevent the turbo from kicking in and cause problems with the exhaust

The ECU could be a problem, but not sure I would go there because thousands of Audi's are jumped every year with not issue and it sounds like it was a "normal" jump. And, the ECU appears to be communicating, so not sure it is the issue. If you are adept, I would pull the timing belt cover and see if if the timing marks line up. Again, is this a 1.8 or 3.2?
