that's highly inconvenient for me. i go on extended business trips ...
and music is a lifeblood for me. even without the business trips, i don't have time to be working out what subset of my music collection to take with me.
not sure what compression level gives you 2000 songs in 8gb, but at the level i use (again, my time paramount; i don't want to spend time re-ripping because of compression artifacts), i'd get about 700 songs in that amount of space. worthless for me.

are you kidding? 16gb doesn't even cover 1/8 of my music collection.
as it is, i only ripped cd's that i regularly listen to -- and that already takes up 50gb on my ipod. then throw in music videos, photos and other stuff i'd like to have with me on a trip, and 80gb (which formats to 74gb) is barely adequate.
it's obvious that i'm not alone, or apple wouldn't have released a 160gb ipod.

"total music collection" has nothing to do with it...
I had the iPod Photo - never used the photo function - currently have the video - don't have any videos on it.
16GB equates to about 10-12 days (playing music all day long) worth of listening - you can't get to your laptop within that amount of time?
I don't care either way, I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing - but it's not like you need your whole library with you at all times. If I purchase a CD... I probably listen to 3 of the songs on it, but I don't go and delete the other songs from the CD.
The only reason why you would need all songs at all times is because there will be the time where you want that ONE song and of course it wont be one of the songs you have on it. Buy the 16GB... it'll break just in time for when they have the bigger hard drives available.

i don't put my personal music on my corporate laptop ...
so i take everything i want to listen to on my ipod. i also want everything on my ipod so that when my hard drive dies, i can resync it rather than rerip it.
i'm glad the 16gb one works for you but for me it's frankly pointless.
