Default Fun with Cruise Control Retrofit

Bought a new retrofit kit from the UK.
Put in all in over a full day or so. Relatively easy to do.
Main problem was identifying the ECU wire positions. There ARE very small numbers on each end of the individual connectors.

Following week, 1 eventually got the Ross-Tech interface and turned on the CC setting.

As usual for me, did not work first go.....
I found that I had a bad clutch switch. It was always as if the clutch was pressed.

The On/Off switch of the CC worked correctly, as did the Set button. The Resume button did not seem to be working. May be due to the clutch switch I thought?

Following week new clutch switch arrived and I have put it in.

Tested the cc ECU outputs and all good except for 'Resume'.

Pulled off the windscreen wipers, etc and opened the electrical box in the firewall. Checked all 4 wires and could nor identify the 'Resume' wire. None of their voltages changed when my son pressed the Resume button.

Must have got the multimeter porbes wrong.

Tried again, and the blue/grey (#1) wire went from 12.7V to 0V.

Went back and forth as son pressed Resume on and off.

MUST HAVE BEEN GOOD ALL ALONG I thought.

Pulled the ECU connector and checked that the blue/grey wire went into the correct #75 spot. All good.

Put it all back together and CC checked out OK.

Went for test drive and IT WORKED!!!!!

Pressed Res and car KEPT accelerating.....Even after I let it go.

System threw an error and did not work again.

Did this several times and then found that the blue/grey wire DID NOT WORK AGAIN.....

Currently emailing the supplier to get a replacement CC lever.

Default Found One Problem

Took everything apart and took pics og all the connections.

Found I had the blue/grey (75) and white (76) wires swapped at the ECU.

Still have a problem withy the 'Res' switch.

I will post pics on how the wiring is correctly oriented when I work out my problem.

The supplier is helping and hopefully I can work it out.

Default Pics of How the Wiring Under the Bonnet Should Appear

I have a problem with my RES wire (or switch) as it is always 12V.

Thought I would post some pics and help others.

This is the female 10e socket that the CC wiring at the switch goes to.

Blue/Grey goes to 1
Red/Yellow goes to 2
Black/White goes to 3 and
White goes to 9

This is male 10e connector that connects that then goes to the ECU. Wires should match colour and location.

This is the ECU showing orientation. There are 2 connectors in the ECU plug.

Pic of Top Connector block that the Black/White goes to. It has been flipped up so that you can see the wiring. Black goes to position 38. The position numbers are all higher at the end of the block that is to the centre or left of the ECU. The Black/White row (lower row of the block) starts at 25 and finishes at 43.

The 'unused for cc' bottom of the row starts at 6 and ends at 24.

This is the bottom block that three of the wires go to. The higher or 'middle' row goes from 44 to 62. The bottom row goes from 63 to 81.

The Red/Yellow wire goes to 57:

Default Problem Fixed

Interesting how a brand new wiring loom can have a problem....

I tested the blue/grey wire at the ECU again and it stayed at 12V no matter what the position of the RES switch.

Pulled the loom plug at the 10e connection and could not find any shorts in this loom.

Tested the outputs in the female side of the plug (coming from the lever) and RES (blue/grey #1 wire) was 0V nomally and 12V when it was pressed.

Plugged it back in and could not get ANY change at the ECU....

Put in a new wire to replace the blue/grey wire (soldered new wire between the connectors)and it all works.

Could be similar problems for those out there that get the error:

17977 – Cruise Control Switch (E45)
P1569 – 35-10 – Implausible Signal – Intermittent.
Readiness: 0000 0000

The error is thrown when the CC is turned on and any of the SET/RES switches are not showing the expected (0V) Voltage.

You can easily test the wiring in the same way I have as it is relatively easy to get to the 10e connector.
