Default Headlight loose after encounter with deer...

After my TT got kicked in the nose by a deer the other night (the ABS *does* work), I now have a loose headlight unit (as well as a crack in the paint on the bumper below it, but that's another matter...) The deer ran off not even limping, before you ask...

The inner bottom corner is protruding by about 1/4" although the unit is intact and doesn't seem about to fall out. It pushes in and is then in correct alignment but it doesn't stay in.

Does anyone know how the headlights are mounted? Is there a clip in there which might have come loose. If I push it really hard will it pop back in, or will I have to take the thing apart? If I do have to take it apart, what's the best way?

Default You broke one of these mounting tabs.

You can just make them out on the top here.
Also, I think there is one on the right in this pic.
The people that recently did the 'Clear Corner Mod' could help with this ID'ing also.

If so, Audi has a repair kit for those......(saves the $1200 or so for a new one)

Default There are 4 mounting locations for the headlight

there are two large torx screws under the curved black plastic cover (between the coolant tank and the battery). There are 6 plastic rivets that hold it on. With a glove on to save yourself pain, press up on the rivet's pin (with your finger) from under the cover. They'll pop up and release.

There is another large torx screw mount on the inside of the front bumper... The bumper has to be removed (or at least pulled forward to get to it).

The 4th is found by pulling the front section of the fender liner back. Up on the left side, there is a small torx screw that holds a plastic bracket.

If your headlight is loose, you have broken (at least) one of the mounts.. I would bet the two on top and the one inside the front bumper cover.

Default If this is the case. (broken tab) You maybe able to repair it w/ fiberglass body filler...

I did it on another car & it held up very well. The repaired area will be hidden anyway.
