I was going to follow Mr. Sellers' example...
He recommended using drafting tape around the edge where the two pieces meet and I want to silicone in the voids between pins and in the holes the pins go in to attempt to make the entire sandwich as solid as possible.
Why do you ask, does yours still rattle even with the silicone?

Long story.....
I prised open the part of the shield between the two tabs and squirted silicone in as previously described. Great! Or so I thought.
After the initial euphoria of a quiet shield wore off I realised that I still have some squeaks and rattles from other parts of the shield.
So, I want to fix that, but I've sealed the shield with silicone so it won't open easily again. To cut a long story short, my dealer is swapping the shield under warranty. If the new one rattles (it probably will) I want to separate the two halves and do the job properly, like you described.
Whew! I must have inhaled too many "silly"cone fumes!
So now you know the rest of the story!<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/keyfob.jpg">

No apology needed. It was my own silly(cone) fault.
And I'll fix the new one properly, if it needs it.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/keyfob.jpg">

Drafting tape is basically masking tape...
It can be found at any art supply store. It's a bit more rugged than standard masking tape and comes in much thinner widths - the stuff my wife, a former graphic designer had was only about 1/2" wide, where the narrowest masking tape you can find at Home Depot is 1" wide...
