Default Hi all ! Voted early & thought I'd mess around with my alternator issue today.Question...

I read Sparttans how to.It seems the belt is supposed to go in a certain direction. Is there any marking on the belt to tell which way that is ?It was lying in the engine bay with the pulley so I don't have any way of knowing how it came off. TIA

So will there be a way to determine the direction on the new one?

Default Here's the story >>

If you are reinstalling a used belt then it must be installed the same direction that it was in when it was removed.

With a new belt it doesn't matter.

Default True. It can run either way. The Bentley manual just says to reinstall the belt so it runs in the

same direction as it came off -- assuming you are reusing the belt. I guess maybe it wears in a certain way? You could probably just install it in either direction if you aren't sure how it came off, but putting a new belt on would be your best bet.
