Hi, just about to buy a 2001 roadster with 8600 miles, cpo from Elk Mtn...
in Glenwood Springs, CO.
They are asking $24,900, seems high, but certified and low miles. Would love some help:
1) My past Audis never climbed above "straight up" on the temp gauge and climbing 800 verticle feet in 80 degree weather moved it to almost 3/4 which I have never seen. Is this normal?
2) Tires are almost shot at under 9000 miles, seems strange. Even my Allroad got more than that. Is that normal?
3) Squeaks between rubber gasket of rag top and something over the passenger's right shoulder.
4) Has anyone mounted a bike or skiis on a TT? I will do a search, but happy to hear your thoughts.
Thanks very much.

Some answers here>>>
1. Possibly just a bad temp sensor.
2. Depends on how hard you drive it... I've been known to go through a set in 10000 miles (2 or 3 track weekends included)
3. I have a coupe so no help here
4. Factory rack seems to be the rack of choice, although a couple here use a Thule rack. Look for a post from 'seneb' he may have some pics in his picposter.
5. Even though you are at low miles, you should seriously consider getting the timing belt changed.. consensus is 4 years or 60,000 miles whichever is sooner.

Great feedback, thanks. I will ask them to check the temp sensor and about CPO...
I thought once it is certified, which it was on August 31, because the car became ineligible Sept. first, that at that point it has the 2 year, 50,000 warranty?? No?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

CPO = 6yrs in service or 100,000
If it really has CPO get them to fix all that first should have been corrected by CPO inspection and check on in service date!!
In service is first (original) delivery date.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audiusa.com/certified_why/0,5777,100,00.html">CPO from AUDI</a></li></ul>

A few more answers
1) Other possibilities are faulty instrument cluster or thermostat. Both are known, common issues. At 9000 miles, I would guess the cluster rather than thermostat. Also, if the AC is not on (i.e. not running the fans), it is normal for the temp to occasionally climb to one notch past center (in hot weather or heavy load or coming to a stop after a hard run). Past that point, the fans will switch on and bring the temp back down.
2) That means the car was driven fairly hard. I got 30K+ on my stock tires (Pirelli P6000).
3) Squeaks and rattles are common and frequent on these cars. I battle this constantly.
4) There is a factory rack available for the roadsters that attaches to the trunk lid.
