Pay lots of money to the dealer. Must be ordered from dealer with VIN and proof of ownership. Once the key arrives you then pay a tech at the dealership to code it to your car.
I got this info by calling the dealer seeking a second key for my car. As I recall the two step process costs near $300.

Was on vacation in my wife's E350 when the car would not start after dining at a restaurant. Called AAA assuming it was a battery but battery tested good. Towed to a dealer 50 miles away. They suspected that the security chip inside the key had failed. New key had to be ordered from MB and took 2 days to get there. The repair, tow, and layover expenses were covered under warranty/roadside assistance. I now always take an extra key on trips.

I can help you out with that. As mentioned above, yes we do need proof of ownership. An email with your drivers license and either reg/title/insurance card is fine. The key would come cut to your VIN, however we can not ship them out programmed. You would have to handle programming it to your car. So confirm with your dealer that is it okay to bring a key in for them to program.

the complete key(2 pieces, button and blade) would run your $116.25, plus shipping and taxes. Pending on what state your in.

$116 is way less than the dealer quoted me. As suggested, confirm that the dealer will program a key they did not sell. I think my dealer wants $125 to program.

I bought a cheap copy, had it cut by a local locksmith and I programmed it using the Rosstech interface.

https://www.remotesremotes.com/product-p/a_231-key.htm

I've been using it for a year with no problems.

Can the instructions on website be used to program? Or is the Rosstech interface required? What is Rosstech?
Thanks

Here you go:

Ross-Tech: Home

It's the best way to diagnose any problems with you car and you can program your key.

This is correct - I did it, and then the new key failed, as in lost it's connection. Arghh. It'll be another 60-90 min of tech time to get it going again.
