how hard would it be for me to replace my coolant temp sensor? anybody have a how to. im getting the coolant temp warning at startup and now its stalling out on a cold start. the volkswagon dealer wants $95 to replace it, with a possible $85 diognostic fee (which will be waved its the problem is found). id reather do it myself if its easy enough. thanks.

what is a vag com? and can you be more specific on how to replace.
what is a vag com? and can you be more specific on how to replace. any pictures. where is it. why do i have to erace fault codes. why do i have to reset throttle and what if i don't. please help, i have an appt to change my oil tomorrow morning and i have to decide before then if im going to let them do it. can i do it without a vag com. thanks

i paid $5.35 and the VW dealer and it very easy to install takes 1 minute.
you need to pull the tab retaining the old one.
then you simply pull it out.
you then slip in the new new one
push the retaining ring back on.
done, i think it took longer to type this than to actually do it.

just remember to wait until the coolant cools down...
or else coolant will shoot out of the hole when you remove the sensor... haha...
other than that, it should take you about a minute and 30 seconds to do....

I just replaced mine thanks to info from MarTT. It was very easy. Only thing i found to be careful of is 1. make sure to open and then close the coolant lid when COLD to release any pressure in the system otherwise you will lose all your coolant. I lost some!
2. Be careful with the clip that holds the sensor in, I flicked it out with a screwdriver and it fell into the bottom of the engine. Took a while before I eventually found it.
