Interoating the DTC code

So I'm attempting my first repair: replacing the thermostat. Bentley's says to Interogate the DTC code by clearing and erasing it.

A. What happens if I don't do this (since I don't have a "VAS 5051")?
B. Should I bring the car to the dealer to have it erased?
C. Should I just bag it and stick to detailing?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a code? Did you get a CEL?..............>

Don't worry about it. The thermostat is not an electrical item...

Still don't worry about it even though I disconnected the ground wire (per Bentley's)?

It has Nothing to do with the electrical system. What ground did you disconnect? The Battery? That's just precautionary so you don't do anything dumb while working around the alternator..

Yes...

it was the battery ground.

My wife and I have a $100 bet on this...she's claiming that I'll end up with extra parts...little does she know what I've tapped into. $100 bucks closer to my 18's!!!
