I've had since Tuesday: It's a 180 fwd 2004 automatic, and the weather's been perfect for one. It's got much different brake feel than my 2001 fwd coupe - guess maybe there's been some change to the ABS - really feels like fly-by-wire braking, not quite as tactile; power - besides there being the usual turbo lag, you really can't play the rev game as easily, so while it seems to have reasonable response, it feels like forever till it kicks in (dv/boost drop noticible too, on shifting). A decent commuter, though, particularly now that I get to re-compare my suspension upgrades with stock.

Brake system is essentially the same as your car. Only three years newer.
... While there may have been changes to pad composotion or boost for the automatic trans cars (reduced available engine braking when left in D) it certainly is not brake-by-wire. And in light of the Mercedes electro-hydraulic brake fiasco, application of the technology on I.C. prime move vehicles has been moved to the back burner at the entire VW group.

that's quite curious - I was unaware of a change myself, BUT there is a real diff >
or at least, there was at first - maybe defective ABS? Definitely was not the feel I'm used to.
