Default A little concerned.....

My new TT (225) arrives at the end of the week, and I have read a load of articles in this forum saying that the 180 is all in all just as good as the 225, and the performance isn't much better - how can this be true?! Please tell me the extra grand or three was worth it?

Hi

I just drove a TT with 180 HP and i think there is a big difference compared to my TT-225! The TT225 has definitely more power and it's more fun to change the gears. Not necessary to say that the grip of the quattro is really a lot better...

If you have the chance to drive an 180HP, switch off ESR. It's a little like ICE - SKATING...

IMHO You made the right decision to order the TT-225.

Roger, I'm contemplating a 225hp TT, although here in the states, we're not getting ours until April at the earliest. Where do you stand in regards to the supposed turbo-lag issue i.e. The 225 has more than the 180? Thanks.

Hi John

With the 180HP we began to feel the turbo with about 2500 RPM. The "real feeling" with 225HP came with about 3000 RPM. But the 225HP feeling was stronger, just better...

IMHO there is no "Turbo Hole". If you drive in the city, it's not necessary to have an aggressive car. If you like to drive aggressive, just stay above 3000RPM...

Default IMHO You made the right choice

When you add up all of the extra goodies you get with a 225Q and add them to the cost of a 180Q you are looking at similar figures anyway. Apart form the different driving experience that sold me. Plus , and within reason, it doesn't matter how much you pay for a TT of either model, you'll drive away with the biggest smile ever!

As for the Bose system I find it quite acceptable and the sound quality good , and very convenient with optional CD changer

DEFINITELY made the right choice IMO.

I picked up my 225 a little over a week ago. The difference between the 225 and the 180 is 'very' noticeable in any gear (other than 1st maybe, since the 180's is so high). 2nd and 3rd especially (the overtaking gears) are SO much better than what I experienced in the 180.

Turbo lag does not feel any different from the 180 and certainly doesn't get in the way, 2500 revs is a pretty low figure for any car, turbocharged or otherwise, to reach a MORE than useable power band (try the S2000 for size).

I tend to do a lot more gear shifting in the 225 than I felt necessary in the 180, so you feel more involved, it feels sportier. I thought the gears in the 180 were too long (other than 1st). I've also NOT noticed the quite apparent 'engine hanging onto revs' syndrome that was evident in the 180.

That's just the engine!

As Victor pointed out, the price difference in the UK between a fully loaded 180 v 225 amounts to a few hundred pounds.

No flames please - I loved the 180 a lot, I just felt the 225 was extra special, and more me.
