Default Just got back from the shop...

Never realized how restrictive the OEM TIP is compared to the silicon version. The OEM part had split where it joins the aluminum intake pipe - tiny hole/split, but enough to drop boost, particularly after the remap. Combine that with the misfiring and it goes a long way to explaining all the issues I've had over the last couple of weeks. It explains the smell too!

Default I agree that there is already alot known about the 1.8

However, new and newer mods come along and when you make those changes, there are still bugs to work out. Not everyone has done the same mods and use exactly the same company and parts. I just find having to keep tweaking after the modifications annoying and time consuming. Granted, for some that is the fun of it all. For me, it is a pain in the behind.

Yup....Split would cause it to run lean. Misfires are usually close behind..

I had the same smell but from my DV going south. I agree with all the comments posted so far about modding and maintenence.
With that said, I now have a fault (16683/P0299/000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached) that I was unaware of until I installed my LiquidTT (shameless plug). The only thing I've found on this fault says - Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected or leaking or Charger Pressure Control defective. So does this sound like a boost leak? I haven't smelled anything like that yet, but it may just be a small leak. Anyone else ever get this code? Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but since you were already on the topic...

Thanks, Keith

That's what I thought, but was curious if the factory DV could also be the culprit... Looks like I'll have to order your tester, probably a good thing to have anyway. Thanks for the response.
Anyone else have this code and figure out what the issue was?

Default If the stock DV was leaking boost..>>

You'd likely hear it. A ripped diaphram would result in a pretty substatial performance drop-off as well...

Thanks, just seems like that's been my luck. I had a bad stock DV on my GTI, bought a Forge 006 that didn't really perform well, then the ARP R1 crapped out. Never had any other issue with anything on either the GTI or the TT, so it was the first thing that came to mind.
