Default Need some help, pleeeeeeeeeease.

My taillights were smoked back in June. BUT they faded out, and left ONLY (I believe) clear coat. The taillight covers look dried-up and have millions of cracks in the coat... What can I use to remove this safely? I was thinking to use nail-polish remover, but I'm afraid that it might take the shine away from the plastic... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Default Whatever you do, do some tests first... in non-visable areas.

That sucks! Why would it have 'faded'??? You may want to send them to Wet Works and have them re-done, I am sure that Joe will hook you up. His will NOT fade.

Default Probably lenses were prepped, possibly wet sanded, prior to paint.....

So gloss may be gone and only way to remove paint is with sanding. Repaint or new tail lenses. Fade is probably due to UV degradation and thin coat. Heat combined with thin coating would make them crack. It's why paint shops don't recommend sanding down or compounding down paint scratches much as it will damage clear coat.

Default "I was thinking to use nail-polish remover". NO! that will eat the plastic!

Sounds like they used lacquer on the clear spray.
this will crack and look like severe 'orange peel'
They may have sprayed the clear lacquer over the smoke-spray, which is a no-no.
find out what the chemical comp of the 2 sprays were.
