NOT !!!!
Not this time, anyway.
A mistrial was declared after the third day of deliberations today on all of the homicide counts of the trial. The jury was deadlocked on everything except minor included offenses.
Too early to say if they will try the case again (although they're posturing that way publicly) or if I'll stay in but for now, I'm celebrating with some great Chinese food and almost great scotch!
Thanks for the support and wishes of luck!

Way to go, Joel. Bet you surprised a lot of people with that one. The press
started out reporting it like it was a shoe-in for conviction. You did an excellent job and gave him the best defense available. Good for you -- am proud of you.

Mixed feelings, which is why I asked the question below...
I very seriously considered becoming a defense attorney at one point in my life. The primary reason that I didn't was because I knew that morally I'd have a hard time cashing a check which came from a murderer or child molester who I had helped to set free.
As a former prosecutor, I would guess that Joel shares some of these same feelings. Obviously though, I am not in a position to speak for him.
While it seems that he has served his client well, cheers to the Counselor and to the accused if he is indeed not guilty. IF that's not the case, I hope they nail the defendant's sorry *** to the cross on the retrial for murdering that young man (with great emphasis on the word "IF").
