Default Ok, update on FMIC install and gasket questions...

Wow, this is great, I've been having so much fun doing this! This is by far the most involved car work I've ever done, so I'm very proud of the work I've done so far. Right now I have the OEM intake manifold off and getting ready to install the new one. However, the gaskets...

What do I need to prep the surfaces on the TB and the Head before throwing on the gaskets? For the most part both are very clean w/ some rusty spots. I was thinking steel wool then some rubbing alcohol or similar? Do the gaskets need anything else before installation such as oil or anything?

Thanks Guys!

Default What does installing an FMIC have to do with the intake?

In any case, it is nice to have the surfaces clean, but you do NOT want anything to fall into the engine. Stuff oiled towles/rags in to the engine, then clean off the surface with steel wool, etc.

Like this:

You do NOT need anything else on the gasket surfaces.

Here is a link to an evoHeatshield install - similar cleaning involved.

I still don't get how this relates to the FMIC install, though, or is it a 180 install that takes a new intake manifold?

http://public.fotki.com/mcphill/audi_stuff/engine_and_drivetrain/phenolic_spacer/</a
