Default OT 2nd career? lol... how much money is there in this anyways....

OK... this past week, working on the TT coloring book... I've realized I REALLY enjoy this stuff!!

But I'm wondering about the money (its always about the money lol)

How much would you make either selling work to an established company.... OR designing your own line and finding a publisher to take them.

I tried to look stuff like that up online but couldnt find it listed in most of the 'sallary' sites.

I know... its probably a stupid idea, but I do enjoy it greatly and I've always wanted to do something more artistic. Hell I've been drawing since I was 3. And I think it would open up other opportunities... such as illustrator or something for childrens/other books

what do you think? I'll see how the TT book goes before moving in on this

Default Can't give you information, but can encourage you...

I think you have a definite talent drawing. Your computer art and your hand drawing both are very good.

If I was you I would pursue to see whether that's the job for you (as a 1st or 2nd career).

Default Art schools have catalogs of potential employers. Start

at one of their web sites and see what info you can turn up. Art college names escape me, but all big universities have departments dedicated to this stuff, too.

You can make a solid living doing graphic design and illustration, I bet.

Default One of the most difficult fields to break into actually

Let me preface this by saying I am graduationg from art school next month. I spent a lot of time in the illustration department, and of all the tracks they had going, the childrens book track was one of the most popular . . . and also one of the most difficult to break into.

If you can draw very well, you'll have a good start, but the ones that make the cut are good storytellers. Telling a story through a set of images is a talent . . . most of the students I know can't pull it off consistently, and some of them are tremendous artists.

I wouldn't discourage you from doing what you really want to do. I gave up a seat in med school for art school, and busted my butt to get through and be successful. Most of the people I knew thought I was nuts, but I followed my heart and never looked back. Hell, I'm the one driving the TT to art school now while most of the "gifted and talented" artists at the school and scraping up bus fare.

Money isn't everything, but it certainly doesn't hurt )
