Default OT: sTTephen, and other wireless, Mac/PC users. Airport Card...

I'm have the Linksys 4-port DSL/Cable router and Linksys Wireles Access Point for my 2 PC destop and 1 PC laptop.

I'm planning to purchase an Apple PowerBook with an airport card, but am wondering if it will communicate with the Linksys Access Point. They both use the standard 802.11(b?). I don't want to purchase an Apple Airport Base when not necessary.

Thanks so much in advance!

Default They are compatible. Just a few quick settings changes on the laptop and you are good to go.

Assuming that you did change your wireless network name from the default "linksys" to something more original (read: secure)

Let me know if you have more specific ?'s. I just recently installed a wireless LAN. I love this technology. It just works.

IOTW you don't need the airport

Default Thanks for the helpful info, Ivan. some clarification

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the quick response!

In your last sentence, when you said Airport isn't needed, did you mean the Airport Base or the Airport Card? I wasn't aware that other wireless cards manufactures had drivers for or compatible with Macs? Thanks in advance!

Default Edwin, it'll work. Being standards-based, you'll enjoy seamless operation.

ObsesTT's point about having the same network name is correct.

Good luck!

Default I meant AirPort base station. You still need the card in the Powerbook.

And it's my pleasure. I don't know much about front mounted intercoolers so I help any way I can.

I have linksys + Airport Base station with Macs/Linux/Windows, all work great. You'll never go back.
