OT: What do people use to block pop-up ads and prevent sites from collecting info
I use Ad-aware right now to clean up my system. But I would like something that can activly stop popup banners, I am getting very sick of the X-10 popups. I would also like some kind of software that blocks websites from probing my system for information- browser info, browser history, etc. I know that self worth site probed my system, but I would like something that is a little more agressive. With that in mind, I do not want to have to click every minute when I want to go somewhere, or have to disable the software when I go to legit sites that might open a search page in a seperate window. Ideas?

Re: I use an older firewall software called AtGuard..
it's now packaged as Symantec's Internet Security Suite. You can set it to block individual sites or wildcard such as *ad* keyword. It totally kills any browser attempt to re-route traffic or pop-up's that are on the list of banned sites that you can adjust at will. I find it a lot more useful than specific ad blocking softwares.
