HEADLINE: GUARD THREATENED IN RAID ON CAR DEALERSHIP;
STOLEN VEHICLES WORTH POUNDS 47,000
BYLINE: Boris Worrall Crime Correspondent
BODY:
A GANG of about a dozen youths stole two sports cars worth pounds 47,000 after threatening a security guard at a Birmingham car dealership with a claw hammer.
The group broke into Tins Car Supermarket in Digbeth High Street at 5.20am on Saturday morning and forced the guard to the ground. They searched for keys and stole a Toyota MR2 and Audi TT before driving them though a perimeter fence seconds before police arrived after a call from a dealership opposite.
The group, aged 17 to 22, caused thousands of pounds of damage to five other cars as they tried to manoeuvre them out of the 90-car dealership.
Manager Jeff Walker said: 'We are still estimating the damage they did to the other cars.
'Although the two others that they stole have been recovered, we have not seen them yet to estimate the damage done when they were driven through the fence.
'I would urge anyone who knows anything to get in touch with the police.'
Four men have been arrested in connection with the raid and were due to appear before Birmingham magistrates later today.
