Part of th reason I've been absent from the forum as of late--------
House "Mod".....
Building a 600 square foot patio out back from old, recycled bricks. Had to excavate first, then, run conduit and wire for electric, then we put down 4 inches of crushed rock, compacted it, then layed down 1 1/2 inches of sand, and then started laying bricks.
It'll be cool when it's done, but you can see what we've done so far. It'll have a fountain at one end, and four 40" tall brick posts with wrought iron railing inbetween. On top of the posts will be a square capstone with carriage-style lights on top.
This was when we laid the rock down....

Actually, we don't......
When we decided to do it, we read a lot of articles and literature on how to do it, and then just decided to give it a whirl. The only thing we didn't do was have the ground excavated. We paid someone to do it with a bobcat. Everything else we did ourselves......including hauling 8 cubic yards of crushed rock from our front driveway to the backyard by wheelbarrow by ourselves on one single 93 degree day (never want to do that part again.)
