Default Question - what do you clean the car with before applying the Invica-Shield film?

I think I'm going to attempt the Invica-Shield install tomorrow or friday. If I recall correctly, the instructions said to use some kind of special cleaner before applying it. If this is simply to strip the wax, well, I haven't waxed my car yet....so there shouldn't be a problem. I can use some Dawn dish soap anyway to be safe or is there something else?

Thanks

Default 3M All purpose cleaner is what they recommend.

I just completed my install. Not so bad, except for spoiler pieces. They suggest you start with hood piece, I do not agree. Doing smaller fender parts gives you time to become comfortable. Use lots of solution. Good luck.

Default The 3M All Purpose cleaner is the best, but almost any naptha based all purpose cleaner will do.

You absolutely MUST clean before applying even if you didn't wax. In fact, I clayed the car first and then used the cleaner just to make sure the area was perfectly smooth and clean. The idea here is that you want absolutely nothing clinging to the paint before you apply the Invinca-Shield.

Default Stongard merely wipes with alcohol/water solution.....

when I applied my fender strip I waxed beforehand. The reason...carnuba is tough and gives a natural layer between glue and paint finish. Never had a problem with bonding. Sticks fine and upon removal of strip I felt wax should be more risk free than possible paint removal. Just a trial on my part as I want to preserve the original paint the best way possible. Fewer solvent or glues applied the better I thought.

The reason all recommend throrugh cleaning is so no contaminants such as grease or dirt exist to make their product not bond correctly. Dawn or a good wash should work fine. Whatever is there will be there protected under the film till it's removed.

Default I don't know if Invinca-Shield sells a kit to fit a belt sander, but you can try if....

...your belt sander is so beloved that you feel you have to protect it. Based on the last couple of days, I'm guessing you would asnwer that inthe affirmative. :-P
