Rack and pinion (Long!!)

Rack and pinion (Long!!)
I have a 2000 TT Quattro Coupe and had an accident the beginning of this year, which involved a low speed collision in which my front end was damaged. While the vehicle was being repaired, I was deployed to Iraq (I am in the Marines). When I returned at the beginning of August, I drove it a couple weeks. I had the VA state inspection done and they stated the tie rod was damaged or lose on the front drivers side and failed the vehicle. I took it to the Audi of Alexandria and upon further inspection, told me the whole rack and pinion was shot and would need to be replaced at a cost of $2500. The car was not driven while I was away, just started once a week, and the car only has 27,000 miles on it. The dealership is querying Audi and I am sure the answer will be negative. I also queried my insurance company to find out if I can claim this as a continuation of my original claim (Maybe the folks that repaired it missed this). Also, the shop had to replace the oil pan due to a crease, which I have no idea how that occurred either...
Do I have any chance of saving myself $2500??

If you have a decent ins. agent and estimator, yes. they should understand that this was caused...
by the accident.
Most likely you can get the dealer and the claims adjuster to work together on this.
Audi should be able to clearly tell them the problem was accident-related.

Rack and Pinion
Just as a follow-up. My insurance company inspected the vehicle and could not ascertain that the damage to the rack and pinion was caused by the previous accident. Audi stated they would pay half the cost of repairs. Do I have any alternatives that anybody might know????
