Default Running Cold..

I recently bought a 2001 TT 225 quattro and It started to over heat randomly. So I checked the fans and they were not working due to a blown fuse. Now they run fine and it hasn't over heated. In fact the temp gauge barley even moves and when I do the 49c trick it is showing temps that never go over 50c. I checked the engine temp too and I had a reading of 90c once and just earlier one of only 39c. I changed the Temp. sensor and I am still getting the same readings. I am not sure whats going on. Also the heater only blows cold air no matter the setting. I haven't been able to find a Thread that is like this issue. Any one have an idea?

I should also add that the out side temperature during this have been between 30 and 45 degrees F.

Turns out the Thermostat was basically non existent and I also believe that the fan relay is bad as it does not kick on when it is supposed to.

Check the temp sensor in the lower radiator hose, its what the Fan controller uses to turn on the fans. There is no relay, the fan controller does it all.

yeah that's what I meant. I can keep the fans on with the ac/heater and it seems to be running hot even with the fans on. The highest it has gotten so far is 98c. I'm wondering if it could be the water pump?

Yes if the coolant is not circulating through the radiator from either waterpump or thermostat than the fan temp switch will never see hot enough temp because it never flows through the radiator and fans will never turn on. If your really suspecting water pump just remove the thermostat and reach in and see if the the impeller is broken or spins on its shaft.
