Default Salt Flats!!!

Hi All,

Just got back from a long meeting in Chicago and
read at least most of the salt flat posts. Enjoyed
the pictures and stories. I will HAVE to get myself
there some year!

How many TTs were there? I've seen only Evan's TT
post. Did anyone here make the 130 club besides
Jason? Congrats Jason, by the way!

Cheers
scot

Default Actually.......both S4s made it.....

As well as my friend Joel and his modified 86 Corvette.

The S4s were mostly stock as well. They friggin flew. My friend Ron had bought his '00 S4 2 days before we left, and he went just over 136.

Joel went 138 on his best run.

My pass, however, was not the fastest I went all weekend. Monday morning, on the way back to Salt Lake, Tif and I had to run back out to the flats to pick up some paperwork and a few other things. We hit 170+ on the road out to the flats :-D

Default So what do you think evan could have done to make it to 130?

I know he came pretty close, so do you think it might be a matter of something simple like thinner tires next year? It looked like he was running on the stock 5 spoke wheels, so I would imaging that the width hurt his speed a bit...Or do you think it might take something a bit more drastic like some upgrades (turbo, downpipes, etc)?

Default Skinny tires would have done wonders, also....

lowering it as much as possible would have helped.

He didn't appreciate my duct tape solution, though.

Do you think a stock (225 HP) TT could do it with just skinny tires and being lowered?

Default Probably not, here's why...

The first day, I ran the OEM chip with a Milltek exhaust and FMIC, and wide tires pumped up to 45 PSI. That setup got me 125.6 MPH in 88*F heat.

The second day, I ran that setup but with an aftermarket chip. We misted the IC before each run. Outside temp was 66*F. My top speed in the mile was 126.35 MPH. My general feeling after talking to a few folks is the 4200 foot elevation probably accounts for the (surprisingly) small difference made by the chip. That and the drag on the car at 120MPH must be pretty hefty.

Next step would be skinny tires, duct tape, lowering, race gas, 1/4 tank of fuel only, remove spare tire, etc. Then I might have made it... but stock 225 with just tires and lowering? I highly doubt it unless you can shift clutchlessly, and even then...

Default I don't know about you giving me a hard time at 7:30 in the AM...

I wasn't even on the forum to defend myself!!

FWIW, if I'd had more runs, the duct tape would have had to come out... thats what Stongard is for, right, to stick duct tape to? :-)
